♥ Black & white striped tray

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Decorative trays can easily become vibrant statement pieces in your home and are a fabulous way to contain clutter.  There are so many different uses for them too...holding beautiful perfume bottles, storing magazines and little knick-knacks in bowls, or the perfect backdrop for bright flowers.
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of stripes so I decided to decorate one of my trays with black and white stripes and added colorful yellow flowers for the perfect contrast.  We may not have our furniture yet but fresh flowers are a must!
Start off by measuring and marking where you’d like your stripes, then apply painter's tape across the tray to outline the straight lines that will be painted black.  To prevent paint from seeping underneath the tape, I generously painted white all around the corners and sides of the tape.

I then applied two coats of black paint to achieve vivid, opaque coverage.  Let it dry thoroughly, then pick up tape.  Voila!

Love, love, love this and how you put some yellow flowers on it, so pretty! My mother has an all black and white room as her home office, she always wanted a room that was only black and white, and this tray would be the perfect addition!

That tray is awesome. Love the b/w stripes.

It just happened that my mom handed me down a very old tray - with an ugly design. So this is what I am going to do to make it pretty. Thanks for the inspiration.

Very lovely & such an easy project! Love those bright flowers.

PS - can't wait to see the outcome of your Halloween party & I so wish we lived closer so we could attend!

PPS - Not sure if it's just on my machine but the pictures for your links on the left side of your page are all black w/exclamation points. It seems the links still work but I can't see the pics. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know in case it's a little bug in your pretty site!
