♥ Halloweekend

Monday, October 31, 2011

Happy Halloween! I feel like we've been celebrating for weeks now.  Any excuse to dress up :-) Jonas won best costume for his "Bride to Be" outfit.  I mean seriously, look at that pink wig, haha! I didn't want to bring my camera out with all the shenanigans of Halloween so all my pictures were taken on my iPhone.  If we end up going out tonight, our last costume will be Tobias Funke and Lindsay from Arrested Development ;-) I definitely think I'm going to need to go on a week juice cleanse after this holiday.  Any recommendations?

♥ Romantic Maroon

Friday, October 28, 2011

The past couple days have been consumed with unpacking.  I forgot how much harder it was was than the actual packing part.  So whilst I am busy unpacking a million moving boxes while simultaneously drinking my favorite bubbly, we have a fun outfit post by my girl Katie.

I love deep colors like maroon for fall.  I've been stocking my closet with maroon tights, scarfs, and sweaters lately.  It has such a luxurious and romantic feel to it.  Happy Friday!

♥ Black & white striped tray

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Decorative trays can easily become vibrant statement pieces in your home and are a fabulous way to contain clutter.  There are so many different uses for them too...holding beautiful perfume bottles, storing magazines and little knick-knacks in bowls, or the perfect backdrop for bright flowers.
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of stripes so I decided to decorate one of my trays with black and white stripes and added colorful yellow flowers for the perfect contrast.  We may not have our furniture yet but fresh flowers are a must!
Start off by measuring and marking where you’d like your stripes, then apply painter's tape across the tray to outline the straight lines that will be painted black.  To prevent paint from seeping underneath the tape, I generously painted white all around the corners and sides of the tape.

I then applied two coats of black paint to achieve vivid, opaque coverage.  Let it dry thoroughly, then pick up tape.  Voila!

♥ Weekend

Monday, October 24, 2011

Bottomless Bloody Mary Bar at Rush Street
Drinks and Dancing at The Standard Downtown LA
Picked up the keys to our new place
Amazing Robyn concert at Hollywood Bowl
Sunset walk on Santa Monica Beach

This weekend was our first official one as Santa Monica residents and it did not disappoint. We ate incredible food, went dancing, saw Robyn in concert (love that Swede), and I began planning some of the interior design projects for our home.

The movers are coming on Tuesday so we have a busy week ahead of us but I am determined to have everything unpacked and put away by next week. Wishful thinking? Here's to hoping...

Have a great week everyone!

♥ screwed-up screwdriver

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Over the past 3 years, the Swede and I have thrown Halloween parties complete with fog machines, champagne pong, dry ice, and signature Halloween drinks. This year, our apartment will be filled with moving boxes so we will be venturing out with friends in LA instead.  But just because we can't throw a party this year, doesn't mean we can't pre-party beforehand with festive drinks. ;-)

Vodka has always my preference when it comes to liquor and this recipe is perfect to serve for friends for the holiday.  Black Vodka is brilliant for Halloween, it adds a dark as night color to a famously clear liquor without drastically disturbing any of the flavor characteristics.
To achieve this perfectly Halloween-esque hue, you only need a couple ingredients combined with orange rimming sugar that makes for a pretty presentation, or you can also garnish with a clip-on spider.

♥ black and white stripes

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

I can't get enough of stripes, especially black & white ones.  They are bold, go with any color, and add instant class to an outfit.  I've been dying to wear my new fall clothes but it's been too warm so my alternative has been pairing fun skirts with light coats.  Now that we're moving to Santa Monica next week, I'm going to have all my clothes back that have been in storage for 5 months! Almost like having a whole new wardrobe. :-)

I'm also working on a lil DIY project that involves black and white stripes so stay tuned!

♥ Santa Monica

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

After months of searching, we finally found our new home!  I actually only saw the apartment for the first time on Sunday but immediately fell in love with it, and ended up signing all the paperwork last night.  We get to pick the keys up on Sunday.  I have about a million ideas running through my head in regards to decorating but until then, I will continue looking for inspiration on my favorite design blogs.  Recommend any?

Here's a peak of our dining room!

♥ diy crayon pumpkins

Monday, October 17, 2011

Carving pumpkins is my favorite thing to do for Halloween (besides dressing up of course).  Every year I try and do something different and unique but this time instead of carving, I thought I would just decorate the pumpkins so I could enjoy them a lot longer.  I decided to get a little extra crafty and ended up melting different colored crayons on the pumpkins.  It's a fun little DIY Halloween project that will surely impress your guests!

♥ Cheers to the freakin' weekend!

Friday, October 14, 2011

So happy it's Friday! The Swede and I have a busy weekend planned. We're having a pool party tonight, heading to San Diego tomorrow, going house hunting in LA, and then have a wedding on Sunday.  This whole week in So. Cal has been like at a constant 95 degrees! So much for wearing those new fall clothes I bought.  Oh and obviously extreme perspiration is very sexy.

Anyway, here's some pictures of life lately according to Instagram...Happy weekend!

♥ Meet Katie

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Get to know Katie.  Her gorgeous face and fun outfits are going to be frequently featured on the blog.  Katie is the most stylish teenager I've ever met (and one with the best hair).  She's a fierce volleyball player in Orange County and happens to be the main squeeze of my little hermano :-) We are going to be collaborating and doing outfit posts together so stay tuned!

♥ Homemade body scrub

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

There's nothing quite as soothing as using exfoliating body scrub in the shower.  My skin feels so smooth and healthy afterward and it helps moisturize and hydrate making you look refreshed all the time.  I've been using Fresh's brown sugar body polish but at $65 a pop, I thought I would try making my own.  Not only was it so easy to make but it can also make great gifts!

Simply mix together the salt and sugar with olive oil to the consistency of your preference with a 3 to 1 salt/sugar to oil ratio
Add a tablespoon of pink sugar crystals for color and 5 drops of an essential oil for fragrance
Make sure to test the consistency on your hands to see if you want to add more sugar
(if it's too harsh)
Package the homemade mixture in a sealed jar and enjoy!

A long run in the city
Tacolicious with the girls
FroYo w/ sour gummy worms
Organic Pumpkin farm
Canoeing in Russian River
The Blue Angels

The Swede and I have been in San Francisco since Wednesday.  It's been so nice being back in the city, I've really missed it.  We hit up our favorite restaurants and caught up with good friends.  I even got to sneak in a girls night out with Camilla, love that girl!  On Friday, a bunch of us headed up to Russian River to celebrate my friend Roxy's birthday (pics to come).  We stayed in a cabin with a gorgeous view of the water and spent the days canoeing in the river & the evenings playing drinking games like college kids {Zumi Zumi, Never have I ever, California Kings}.  It was such a great weekend that we finished up by watching the Blue Angels fly around the city, fleet week in SF is awesome.  We're headed back to LA now...have a great week everyone!
